Tennis Facilities Opening Under New Safety Guidelines; USTA Southern California Targets July 1 to Resume USTA League and Tournament Programming

For the past few months, USTA tennis programming has been in a state of suspension as we navigate these unique and challenging times. Now, as tennis facilities begin to reopen, we encourage our players to follow USTA safety guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic, taking proper precautions to decrease the potential for exposure and spread of the coronavirus while enjoying their time back on the courts.

USTA Southern California is committed to providing safeguarded opportunities for our members to participate in USTA programming throughout our Section. While we develop and implement these initiatives, the Section has extended the suspension of our programming  through June 30, with a goal to resume USTA programming on July 1, including tournaments and leagues.

This extension will allow the Section to fully prepare for a return to tennis activity, with extra precautionary methods in place to create a safe environment for players of all ages to return to organized play.

Currently, USTA Southern California is focused on these specific initiatives ahead of the July 1 resumption of play.

• Staying abreast of city, county and state guidelines, encouraging safe and seamless reintegration of athletic activity in our cities and towns.

• Coordinating with host clubs and facilities to ensure all protocols are in place and able to accommodate USTA leagues and tournaments. Many facilities in Southern California are receiving USTA Facility Recovery Grants to encourage and promote these preventative measures.

• Reconfiguring tournament formats, schedules, and on-site experiences to reflect the new standards of preparedness, cleanliness, and social distancing while still providing an unparalleled tennis experience for our members.

While we are all eager to resume USTA tennis programming across Southern California, we are equally obligated to move forward with care and caution. The health and safety of our members, our staff, and our many friends and followers is the highest priority.

As we continue to foster safe environments for our players to enjoy the game this summer and beyond, the entire USTA Southern California team extends our sincere appreciation for your patience during this time.
